Spades
Bid and take tricks with your AI partner — first to 500 wins
About This Game
Spades is a four-player partnership trick-taking game where spades are always trump. You and your AI partner team up against two AI opponents, bidding on how many tricks you'll take each hand, then playing to hit your bid exactly. Overbidding loses you points (sandbags), and underbidding scores nothing — precision is key.
The partnership element makes Spades unique among trick-taking games. You can't directly communicate with your partner, but smart bidding and consistent play create an unspoken understanding. Nil bids — declaring you'll take zero tricks — offer bonus points but are risky: your partner must cover for you while you dodge every trick.
How to Play
- You and your AI partner sit across from each other, facing two AI opponents
- Each player bids how many tricks they expect to take (1-13, or Nil for zero)
- Your team's bids are combined — you must collectively hit this number
- The player left of the dealer leads the first trick
- Follow suit if possible. Spades are always trump and beat any other suit
- Win the trick by playing the highest card of the led suit, or the highest spade
